Anne Loyer

co-artistic director

Anne Loyer has been involved in visual storytelling throughout her career: from two-dimensional fine art work, to narrative animations, to public art projects and performances that included her audio and video collages based on participants’ stories. She has been instrumental in bringing the work of Iraqi artists and immigrants to local audiences by helping to produce plays, gallery shows, readings and panel discussions. While an artist in residence at the Joiner Center for the Study of War and Social Consequences, she furthered their mission of creating cultural ties between communities in conflict, bringing veterans, women and other underrepresented community members into the conversation. She has created work with diverse community members like elders, tweens in the Science Club for Girls, patients at Tewksbury Hospital, Neurology residents at Harvard Medical School, and in higher ed. She believes the best art experiences are akin to the best educational experiences: they transform our understanding, and address issues of personal and cultural significance. In addition to her work with HER STORY IS, she currently focuses on creating work that opens up new paradigms for understanding climate change through projects like Ocean of Rivers. She is developing a new project, Tracings, with an Iraqi artist and geologist, investigating industrial & other changes to watersheds through sound and video.
